A very thoughtful, serious book for those who are somewhat familiar with Christianity, but see perhaps the superficial aspects of the faith and are seeking something with more depth than what they have found so far before they make the plunge into Christianity. Also a good book for Christians who feel there ought to be something "more" than what they are currently experiencing. There are no platitudes or pat answers in this book.
The author deals with questions such as Why Jesus?, Saved from What?, What's the Difference?, and Why Church? He has issues with the whole spectrum of the N. American church, from the Kum Ba Ya anything-goes liberals to the I'm-right-you're-wrong Right , to the comfortable mainline churches that don't offer a challenge.
My fairly conservative Christian upbringing didn't let me agree with everything he wrote, but as I tried to keep an open mind I kept thinking "This guy is on track." The inclusive God-language was a little awkward to read, but I could overlook it to get to what he was really trying to say. One point I really liked was that doubt is good. Without doubt, there can be no searching, so there can be no spiritual growth.
A very good book, but read it slowly to get all the meat out of it.
