Socio-political kinda near-future SF. Fred and Chang Qi end up on the run with Ta Shu trying to help, the 3 of them ping-pong back and forth between the moon and Earth with multiple entities catching up and arresting the two fugitives only to have a different political entity let them go each time. I think the whole story is a metaphor for current China-US relations, with Fred as the US and Chang Qi as China...but then I'm not much of a one for understanding deep meanings in authors' works. I get that the undercurrent is there, but frankly I like a straightforward story with a lot of action better. And I'm not sure about the ending. It could mean there's a sequel. Or it could be the answer to the larger question of where we're going as societies. Lots of political philosophy here, almost all of it related to China's history and the US relegated to a minor player (which is probably pretty likely, given current trends). Some cool ideas like the cryptocurrency. Some of the cool stuff is no doubt in play right now and I'm just not up on it. I liked it, but it won't stick with me.
