I don't think that I have ever read any other book written as well as this one. I must say that I am completely impressed. Gabaldon does an absolutely fabulous job at drawing her reader into this story. Morally, I disagree with most of the content, but I cannot help but give this book an outstanding review simply due to the craft of the writing.
Usually, I very much dislike stories written in the first person perspective simply because they make feel like I was cheated out of the 'rest of the story'. We do read fiction, after all to escape real life and being at least somewhat all knowing is nice at times. :o) This book however, does not lack anything. The first 3 chapters set the stage and then after that, I hope you set aside lots of time, because you won't be able to put it down. The characters were so real, I could feel their pain and share their triumphs.
I haven't read any other books by Gabaldon, but honestly I don't think that she could ever top this one.
Amazing writing. Clever story. Well worth the read even if you don't like this genre of book. A job well done!
