PreSchool-Grade 2-- A colorful, basic introduction to bones and skeletons with lots of child appeal. A brief description of types of bones and their composition is followed by a series of riddles that introduce the various topics of discussion, e.g., "What cage is inside you? Your rib cage!" Information on each is limited to one or two short paragraphs, usually detailing form and function of the various bones. The skull, vertebrae, rib cage, and joints are examined, and then attention is turned to the skeletons of several animals, including whales, dogs, bats, and kangaroos. Billin-Frye's precisely done cutpaper illustrations are as intriguing as the subjects themselves. None are labeled as diagrams, but each topic is given two pages, one picturing the animal from the outside, the other its skeleton. Pages are layed out so that if they are held up to a light the bones can be seen within the outline of the animal.
