This book started out with two concurrent stories, seemingly not related. There were so many different character names between the two stories that I found it a bit confusing especially when every other chapter skips to the other storyline. To make it even more confusing, the two main characters are men about the same age; one a private investigator and the other a police detective. Sosimilar that you're not always sure which storyline you're reading.

After about 1/3 of the way through the book (between pgs 150 and 160 (which means it has a very slow start and build-up), a single sentence gives you the hope that these stories are tied together. Then the puzzle pieces start fitting together. Once you get to this point in the book, it really keeps you guessing and there are some unexpected twists that you don't see coming. It becomes quite a page-turner. That said, every time the story concentrated on a character, I had to stop and think about which storyline they were connected to.

Edited to add: Apparently there is another book that is a required reading before this one. It is called The Twenty-Three', and it basically leaves you hanging at the end, requiring you to read this one!
