I didn't like Valerie Dumere at all. She is easily led and traipses off with Rod Tritone without the slightest idea why. Rod pussy-foots around the reason for the coast visit with some bogus inheritance thing but doesn't actually explain what is going on until that last few chapters of the book. I just couldn't see any normal female person going off on a wild-goose chase with a gorgeous guy and a talking seagull with no real explanation. Then when all the birds chased them for miles and miles and dropped dead fish on the car, Valerie asks for an explanation and actually refuses to go any further without one. And then without one, they are on the road again. It just wasn't believable.

Again I liked the premise but all the fish-isms got on my nerves. (catfish got your tongue, bullsharkshit, yellow-bellied tuna shits, etc). None of the Mer characters could complete a sentence with some fish reference and the talking seagull was beyond annoying. All in all, I just found the whole book irritating. I do own book three in the series and since I need to read it to complete a challenge in November I will. If it weren't for this challenge, I would honestly give up on this one.
