While the book was OK, I think the title is misleading in this genre. This book has nothing to do with shifters or even characters with any "beast" element to them. This is more of a sci/fi fantasy in a world that several humanoid species have ended up on. The "beast warriors" in question are humanoids who cover their heads and faces with metal mask/helmets that depict said beasts.

And to be fair...the beast warriors story isn't exactly what is written here. They are almost sidenotes to the story. There are two stories contained in the book. The first story is about the younger generation and the second story is about the hero's older brother and the hero's adoptive mother. Kind of layed out in reverse order.

I would be interested to actually read a story about the Beast Warriors. They are needing females to continue survival of their species, trying to learn to communicate with the local females in their language with some funny verbal errors, "undressing" to them means removing their masks which isn't something they offer to do lightly and seem to be eager to find someone they can love. Hope to see their story soon.
