This just was not the book for me. I struggled through about 50 pages before giving up. It got blurbed by a couple of very good authors, and others seem to like it, so maybe I'm in the minority. But I just hate when the hero and heroine are squabbling and hate each other, then suddenly he *very forcibly* kisses her and she instantly melts in his arms. This happened several times before I gave up reading. Also, the plot is based a couple of big misunderstandings between the H&h, a trope that I don't much care for. And lastly, there is no feeling at all for the historical era, in the behavior of the characters or the atmosphere. The historic setting is just wallpaper. The reason that was stated for the heroine not getting her widow's portion was so ridiculous, it was the last straw for me.
