This is a wonderful book! It is an anthology of tradtions, stories, songs, and recipes that show how far we have come from the 1st Puritan settlers who declared in 1659 that "anybody who is found observing by abstaining from labor, feasting, or any other way, any such days as Christmas day whall pay for every offense 5 shillings."
Our celebration is a legacy of many immigrants who came to our shores and brought their customs and traditions form their native lands.
This book shares stories, songs, customs, and recipes from 17 different countries.
There is also a special section devoted to the traditions from our own shores.
This book is beautifully illustrated, in full color according to the visual traditions of each country and also contains reporductions of Victorian Christmas drawins.
Very interesting and informative. Good entertainment and would be great for a family to read and learn.
