Siobhan Clarke find conspiracies involving Russian businessmen, Scottish bankers, and local politicians pushing for an independent Scotland. A second murder involves a man who taped one of Todorov's poetry readings. There is even a possible connection to Rebus' nemesis, Edinburgh crime boss, "Big Ger" Cafferty. This is vintage Rankin, always a pleasure to read.
