This book has good information and perspective on how staying home with children (especially after years in the work force) changes a woman. The sections on making the transition and changing relationships were particularly helpful to me, even 1 year after coming home.

The section on public policy is (thankfully) quite out of date. (The book was published in 1992.) The topics in that section are still relevant however, and fortunately public policy and business practices have improved. For example, at the time of publication, the USA was listed as having no national policy for maternity leave. Now we have FMLA which guarantees 12 weeks of unpaid leave with job security for women and men (who work for companies with 50 or more employees) to care for family members (this applies to birth, adoption, and other medical needs). Many states and businesses have even more benefits established now.
