This is the 2nd book in the Ester Ried series. Julia, Esters youngest sister, goes to work in the city at the age of 16, wanting to support herself and her mother. Her struggles, failures and finally successes, are a worthwhile read. The other books in this series are The Kings Daughter and Wise and Otherwise.
