A one time thriving culture of human and Orphan alike, the asteroid Ceres now lays abandoned after its two peoples came to war on each other. Years later, to this fossil of tragedy arrives an advance team of human engineers, under orders to lay the ground work for human repopulation. Unbeknownst to them, the Orphans (genetically altered humans originally created to live on Mars) have not been eradicated as previously thought. In fact they have prospered, both culturally and genetically as they have rewritten their genetic codes and are now less combative. But as docile as they have become, many remember the old ways, and when the unwanted humans show no signs of leaving, they will take drastic means to defend their plan.

A true Science Fiction novel. While the book was slow in some places, it didn't fail to keep my interest. I loved this book and am pleased by the author. I am eager to read more books by Scott Mackay.
