A romantic comedy with the pacing and characterization of a soap opera. I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. It was just too slow and uneventful. There were some cute, funny moments but overall I felt like not enough happened and the characters were too annoying for me to enjoy the fact that this was a character driven plot with a teeny tiny bit of danger thrown in. I prefer my paranormal romance to be, well . . . less normal. I was surprised at just how uninterested I was in the shifter nature of the characters because all they did was preen, act immature, and get drunk and hustle. The well-adjusted family scenes were even worse! They outweighed whatever drama the families brought each other and detracted from the heroes journey by never allowing the two main characters to ever face being truly alone or isolated, thus severing any sense of danger in the plot. And the sheer amount of them coupled with how lame the conversations were just made me want to scream. I never felt like any of the characters were actually in danger, the villains were jokes, and I didn't see a lot of change in the two main characters. I will admit that if this narrative style is your thing, this book is decently enough written (hence my giving it at least 3 stars); it just isn't to my taste.
