A gripping story of Sugar and her rise through Society. Characters with flaws who are more real than many in historical dramas. Too much despair and realism to be a romantic story, but more a deeply human story than a dry history. A large book, but you won't want to put it down. Expect household chores to mount up while you read, and read, and read!
