The mystery in this one is pretty simple, just a couple of clues needed to figure it out. Tepper seemed to mellow Shirley just a little in this book, she's still cantankerous but there are not as many long rants about the alien abduction bit, or other items, as you'd expect given the previous books. Alison gets some welcome POV time too. Loved the character of Mama, and I really liked the very last couple sentences, but this is the penultimate book in the series and Tepper apparently decided not to take it in the hinted-at direction.
