As the title implies, this work of historical fiction explores the life of Mary Todd Lincoln through her numerous sisters. While a summary of her childhood is included, the novel primarily focuses on her adult life, particularly her marriage to Abraham Lincoln and the time following his death.

I really appreciated this review of a key period of American history through the lens of women in the Todd family. It's obvious the author did extensive research in crafting her novel. There were a few paragraphs where I felt I was reading a textbook, but then the next sentence pulled me right back into the story of tumultuous events of the 1800s.

Read this if you enjoy well-written novels about the story behind historical events. An interesting companion to this would be Fates and Traitors, Ms. Chiaverini's novel about John Wilkes Booth.

I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher. I was not required to share a positive review; all thoughts are my own.
