I like this book because the font is similar to what a child will read in their own books. The words start out simple and then sounds are added to the word. Another thing I like about this book is that it seems to focus on having the phonics flow better than other programs. Instead of teaching /c/ /a/ /t/ = /cat/ it first teaches /a/ /t/ = /at/ then teaches /c/ /at/ =/cat/. I feel this helps the child later when learning rhyme and also diphthongs.

Another thing that was helpful for our family is the fact that Alpha-Phonics doesn't have illustrations. The child must read the sentence. He cannot look at the picture for clues to what the sentence might say.
