I ready this book shortly after it was first released because I love paranormal/fantasy stories and I was looking for a lighter, quicker read. I honestly do not understand all the hype that has built around this books/series since then.
The writing is lazy. The editing is lax. And the characters are either under developed or off putting. I'm sure there's an emo-wreck of a middle schooler burried inside everyone, but the level to which it is indulged in this book is excessive and the relationship between Bella and Edward reads more as creepy, controling, and obsessive to me than sweet.
Read the book. Enjoy it. I've certainly read worse. But please, please don't tell me that you think Bella is a good roll model for (pre)teen girls.
