She had wanted to give her husband his first child, but it hadn't worked out that way for Meg. She has ran out of options and they are looking to adopt. But they have a very dysfuntional marraige. It was a marriage of convenience and he has never told her he loves her. He appears to carry a torch for his old lover. But then he finds out about a child he'd known nothing about. A child he had with the old lover, who he had thought was dead. It turns out she did die, just not when he thought. She didn't die all those years ago like he thought, but recently, leaving the boy without a home. So Meg is left to take the child into their home, to be a mother to the child she had wanted to give Joe but couldn't. This was a very emotional book, but very good. I enjoyed it very much!
