It's a busy night in the E.R. and Dr. Rachel Browne is up to her neck in patients. When a young pregnant woman arrives already in labor, Rachel delivers the baby, but the mother dies. The next morning, E.R. Chief Guy Giroux is shocked to find out his ex-wife's daughter died in his hospital. He didn't even know she was pregnant. Battling his grief, Guy confronts Rachel about what happened. She shows him compassion and tenderness, and decides to help Guy find out how his step-daughter ended up in this situation.

This story started out with lots of drama in a busy emergency room; but it soon turned into a story about a doctor who is attracted to her boss and the story started to drag. Solving the mystery of the dead step-daughter didn't really work well in this book. Most of the revelations were not made by the hero or heroine, but by a third party who was helping them out. The story had a unique premise, but it just didn't keep my interest until the end. My rating: 3.5 Stars.
