Lady Elizabeth Croyden has declined many offers from the best of the ton's bachelors in order to marry Sir Anthony Russellford when he eventually returns from Jamaica. After three years, Russellford returns to England penniless and determined to put aside his dreams of marrying Elizabeth. Elizabeth is furious but Anthony would not be budged.
