This is the third (of seven) stories in the Paul Devlin series. This is the story of a serial killer who murders his victims on the SECOND visit. On the first visit, the killer disfigures his victims, who happen to be very attractive and on the cusp of success in one of the arts of New York City.
Detective Paul Devlin took early retirement with NYPD after becoming disabled; he is the police chief of a small Vermont area. Now, an old NYPD friend calls Paul back to the Big Apple to help him protect his goddaughter, Adrianna. Paul also has a history with Adrianna, they were lovers 10 years earlier.
So much happens during this book that the pages fly past. The politics in large-city police work must be awful.
