I only knew Marlborough as the ancestor of Sir Winston Churchill. The book is a puff piece, with a few words calling ambition their worst fault, but they were talented people moving in the highest society, personal friends of English royalty. Their downfall came about when the shy queen made a new friend, a rival to Sarah, who was left out. Sarah then treated Queen Anne so poorly that Anne's former love turned to hate. The Duke was one of those blessed men who never seem to make any mistakes. He never lost a battle in the wars with France, the War of the Spanish Succession. The detailed battle descriptions proved very interesting, which I did not expect. Get it, read it. Amazing story.
