Ellie gets a call from her (mentally ill) dad (Baxter) to let her know he loves her and someone is after him. He was clearly scared and she decided to go to CO to find him and see if he would be willing to check himself in for treatment. It turns out she needs some help to find him. She is able to hire George (part of the S&R team we meet in previous books) to help guide her. George is very quiet, shy, and socially awkward. We get to see Lou and Callum and how their relationship is going.
Anyway, things happen and it quickly becomes apparent that someone is after Baxter. Ellie and George end up getting shot at and mugged. The first half of the book was super fast, so much action and things going on. It slows down after Ellie goes back to Chicago. It does pick up again once George and Ellie reconnect (her dad signed himself out of the psych facility).
Even though Ellie and George only knew each other for a short time, they really connected with each other, and I could see them together.
We still don't know what Willard Gray (Lou's headless dead guy -HDG, from book 1) knew/witnessed that led to his murder. Nor do we know what Baxter knew. We do have a better idea of who was behind HDG's murder. This does end in a bit of a cliffhanger to set up the next. Ellie and George's romance is complete.
