What can I say? I enjoy Cherie Priest's books, each and every one I've read. That goes for Bloodshot, first book in the Cheshire Red Reports, which sadly ended with Book 2. The heroine of this one is Raylene Pendle, a vampire female expert thief who can obtain almost anything a client wants. It's an entertaining urban fantasy that is well written, moves quickly and provides the reader with action and adventure.

The book begins with a letter that Raylene receives at her safe house with no return address. Of course, it's from another vampire, Ian Stott. Stott was blinded after being kidnapped and subjected to biological experiments by the government. Ian asks Raylene to break into the government research facility where he was held and obtain his medical records. He hopes that he can recover his sight if he knows exactly how the experiments were conducted. Not an easy task as the facility is hidden and guarded.

The assignment takes her through several cities including Seattle, Minneapolis, Atlanta, and D.C. Her investigator partner is Adrian, an ex-Navy Seal drag queen whose wit, training, skill and planning complement Rayleneâs vampire powers. When her warehouse home is raided by the federal officials, it is unsafe for her, Ian, Adrian and a couple of homeless youngsters she shelters.. What happens next is up you readers to discover? Get acqainted with Raylene, her friends and family as they dodge danger and help others.
