Get ready to laugh with goofy Bertie and his family of difficult people. Spots appear on Bertie's body and he takes himself to a doctor. The physician orders Bertie to retire to the country where there he can find fresh air and a place to let his liver rest. Bertie winds up in a cottage in Maiden Eggesford.

However, Bertie's Aunt Dahlia wants him to help her win a horse race by nabbing a cat. If that weren't bad enough, Vanessa Cook decides to marry Bertie, so she can save him from himself. Bertie is horrified by both his aunt's weak grip on ethics and Vanessa's strong grip on Bertie's future. But don't worry, Bertie survives, through no help from his family.
