This is another book by anime uber-fan Gilles Poitras, who has done much to promote anime both locally around him, and nationally by writing his books. His Anime Companion books are chock-full of information to enhance and enrich the anime-viewer's experience.

This title is more of an introductory volume to get someone started in the world of anime viewing. There is a lot of explanatory detail here, as in his Companion books, but also a lot of beginning material as well to try to induce the reader to find and get more involved in their local anime scene, including going so far as tips to start your own anime club if you can't find one locally near you. Poitras so obviously enjoys his subject matter that his enthusiasm is contagious.

This book can be skipped if you've already read the Anime Companions books, or if you are already somewhat knowlegeable about anime, but I recommend it for someone new to the scene or curious to find out what all the anime commotion is about.
