Lavinia wonders why a rich Dutch doctor wants to marry a rather non-descript girl like herself, and even the hero seems surprised by it. The reader wonders this also, until finally Radmer comments that she has a gift for serenity.
Usually the heroine shows initiative, industriousness, kindness and other qualities that catch the hero's eye even if she lacks glamour and model looks.
Worth reading if you are a Betty Neels' fan.
