The strengths of this book lie in the true pictures the author draws of various relationships. While the main story is the complex story of Warren and Flip, their relationships with others, particularly Warren's niece Julliet and Flip's sister, Rosie are nearly as important to the story and certainly to Warren and Flip's life stories. Truth be told, the least interesting aspect of this novel was the labor union 'story'. While the parallel between religious fervor and organizing was well-drawn, the union stoy never drew me in. I found I could skip entire sections on Rosie and not really miss anything.

The book is definitely worth reading, but some sections are worth skipping.
