This book is like a trip back into the Old West. Learning how to cook like the chuck wagon cooks did, whether it's Dutch oven, Pit cooking, or cooking by campfire...it's all there! Cooking for one or two up to a thousand, whatever you wish! Great ideas about how things have been done in the past in handling food, even alternative refrigeration without electricity in the hot Arizona summer days. Great variety of recipes and good 'how to's' along with great humor and lore about the Old West. Delightful book!

From the chapter titled THE HOT STUFF we find the following chili recipes: Wick Fowler's Original Chili, Verl Miller's Plain Texas Chili, No Alarm Chili, Mountain Oyster Chili, Sweet Chili, and Green Chili. And then there is the chapter titled: ALL BUT THE HIDE AND HORNS with not only the BBQ recipe but also the instructions for building your own deep-pit style oven without expensive gadgets. Among the other 34 recipes of this chapter are the instructions for "How to Make Jerky". Finally, who wouldn't be curious about the chapter called COOKIN' BY GUESS AND BY GOSH or Y'ALL COME?
