Review: This book picks up a few months after the last book. Kara's life is settling back to a new normal as she deals with her aunt who woke up from a coma slightly changed, dealing with being on an FBI task force with two colleges who are hiding things from her (and one that she's interested in) and with being the Summoner of a Demonic Lord.

The book opens with them staking out a concert in New Orleans as the lead singer had been getting threats that a demon would come and kill her during the last set. Much to Kara's surprise something not human actually does show up and drag the singer off. As Kara and the task force try to figure out who was behind it people start dying at the hand of the same thing.

The begining of the book really dragged. I didn't really feel the mystery part of the story in book 2, and it was no more interesting in this book. It's somewhat frustrating to have Kara as a police officer, as it really hampers the magical parts of the investigations. Granted she gets first access to the crime scenes, but that could be worked around, especially if she were to quit the police force and go full time with the FBI task force.

The book finally picks up more than half-way through when Kara strange things start happening to Kara. There was one incident in particular that Kara started to look into and then forgot about (in the police station parking lot). Hopefully that comes up again in the next book.

The first two books I didn't feel any chemistry between Kara and Ryan. The only reason I knew he was a love interest was because of Kara's constant angst about it. In this book something finally clicked and Ryan is finally starting to actually feel like a love interest. I still don't like him though. I had made a guess about him while reading book 2 and wasn't surprised to have it confirmed in this book. I did really like what we found out about Ryan's partner, Zach.

I could have use a bit more of Lord Rhyzkahl in the book. The scenes with him were very good. I'm looking forward to learning more about what he's up to in the next book.

I wasn't so fond of Kara's aunt in this book. She seemed to only appear in scenes to tell Kara something cryptic and then wander off. I'd like a return to the aunt from the first book.

While the book started out slow, with a weak story, things picked up toward the end. We got some secrets revealed, while new question have been raised. I'm looking forward to the next book.
