If you like stories where the pets behave like people, you'll probably want to read A Load of Old Bones. Three perspectives are told here: Maurice the cat, Bouncer the dog, and Reverend Francis Oughterard the vicar. The Reverend just wants a quiet life, and he thinks he's found it in this quiet parish, until Elizabeth Fotherington sets her sights on him. We know from the beginning who kills Fotherington and there really doesn't seem to be much suspense in what will happen in the end, but the maneuverings of Maurice and Bouncer are what make this book very amusing. Hill nicely sets us up for the sequel too - the poor vicar!
