Good young adult book. Dicey and the other Tillermans from Homecoming show up in this book as well.

From the back cover:
Mina Smiths, a black girl from Maryland, wins a scholarship to a dance camp in Connecticut. She's so excited by all she learns that even after going home, her imagination keeps her in Connecticut.

The next summer she returns to camp, but things are not the same. For the first time Mina is aware she's the only black girl there, and her former friends treat her differently. Besides, her body has changed, and even though she works as hard as ever, she can no longer dnace the way she used to. Her instructor sends her home.

There, Mina begins to face her feelings about being black, something she'd never really thought about before. And when she meets Tamer Shipp, a minister, she finds the courage to open up to him about herself and her life-with surprising results...
