I really enjoy McDowell's writing style (here writing as Axel Young.) The story is a little frustrating because all along the reader will be waiting for Louise, the unscrupulous step-mother, to get what she deserves, but she is pretty clever at covering her tracks and as bodies mount it looks like she might just get away with it. But that keeps you reading to a satisfying conclusion, and there are many clever witticisms sprinkled throughout the dialogue.
