This was not my first read by this author, who passed away in 2011, but it's my favorite. Diana Wynne Jones, who wrote the Chrestomanci and Dalemark series, and "Howl's Moving Castle," was a British fantasy writer. "Dogsbody" is the story of a young girl living an almost Cinderella-type existence, who finds a friend in a red & white dog that she takes home. This dog is no ordinary dog, but the physical embodiment of the Dogstar, Sirius, living in a dog's body. Their story is beautiful and moving - it made me cry! This book will stay on my short list of favorite books that I have ever read, and I've read a lot over the last 40 years.
