Ten years on from his misadventures in "Out of the Sun" Harry Barnett is leading a contented life in Vancouver with his wife and daughter. Back in England to clear his recently deceased mother's home, Harry bumps into old acquaintances from his National Service days. As RAF conscripts in 1955, they had all been guinea pigs in a psychological experiment at a Scottish castle. When Harry is invited to attend a fiftieth-anniversary reunion, he decides to go along.

- Good Goddard, and a good follow-up to previous novels featuring Harry Barnett.
