Red Delicious Death follows fortunes of ex-Big City residents as they escape to country life
Red Delicious Death by Sheila Connolly is one of a series of mysteries set in the western Massachusetts countryside where Meg has returned to her family roots. Meg inherits an apple grove and winds up taking a crash course in growing modern and heirloom varieties. She also finds time to help out a young couple who escape Boston and buy a local mansion to convert into a locavore restaurant.
Along the way the newcomers must deal with the local board of selectmen, and the murder of their sous chef. There seem to be no leads in the latter, and only vague good wishes from most of the board on the former.
Turns out the guilty party is someone you'd least suspect, but I have to let you read it to find out more.
A serviceable mystery with a little romance thrown in for good measure also three recipes are tucked in the back: Apple Slaw, Goat Cheese Mini Cheesecakes, and Rachel's Strawberry Muffins.
