This witty collaboration was started in 1930 but was never really finished due to a dispute between the writers. This then is the complete story of the play, from Hurstons story The Bone of Contention upon which the play is based, the play as produced and copyrighted finally in 1991, and the history of the authors dispute. It is now a part of history. Written in the vernacular of the day, and replete with the hated, although commonly used vernacular, N word, I wonder about its acceptability in todays volatile politically correct environment. At any rate, this is a must read for any aficionado of Zora Neale Hurston, Langston Hughes, or of African-American literature.
