Why had it become a battle of wills?

Berry Baker, popular hospital radio DJ, couldn't understand how her plan to raise money for a children's ward at St. Luke's Hospital had turned into a contest for control--between her and Julian Vyse, the senior medical consultant.

Was it because her youthful appearance and bouncy personality made her seem incapable of real responsibility? Or was it because Julian was just too accustomed to running the show?

Or had Berry thrown up battle lines because Julian had flirted with her, kissed her and threatened to crack her protective shell?
