I read THE WINTER PALACE for this month's "Russian" theme in my online book club, The Reading Cove.

What a disappointment. For me the writing style was dull, dry and flavorless. I was never engaged and had to skim to get through it. The main character, Varvara, never came off the pages, which made it impossible for Catherine the Great to shine in this narrative. I don't think the author's style is my cuppa.

1.75 yawning stars.
