The 8:55 to Baghdad : From London to Iraq on the Trail of Agatha Christie and the Orient Express

In 1928 Agatha Christie decided to take a desperately needed trip after the breakdown of her marriage and after a chance discussion over dinner chose to take a trip from London to Baghdad. In 2002 the author of this book decides to recreate her trip which is much more difficult due to the political situation. Many of the people he meets along the way could have stepped out of one of Agatha's novels. Fans of the writer will delight in his descriptions of the places and events that appeared in and influenced her fiction and arm chair travelers will thrill in the exotica of the journey itself. A truly engrossing read.
