Entertaining, if somewhat disjointed, historical fiction story.
The main character, Dana, searches for a hidden document linked to James Weaver's journey 150 years before. The book jumps back and forth between Dana's progress with the mystery, and James Weaver's adventures to help four slaves escape to freedom.
Both stories are enjoyable, although I admittedly skimmed over parts of Dana's story occasionally to get to the next part about James and his companions. I found those characters quite a bit more relateable than Dana and her teeny-bopper friends.
Dealing with slavery, injustice, and politics in the mid-1800s, the book uses language and dialogue that is not always "politically correct" by today's standards; yet the story has a good overall message of justice, human rights, and equality.
All in all, a good read.
