I work in the financial risk management business and picked up this book because of the title. I was surprised to realize it was written back when I was starting my profession (copyright 2002) but is even more relevant today!
The author lived in NYC since 1979 and worked in the same profession as her protagonist, Cath, as an executive speech writer at several Wall Street investment banks. You know, the ones that don't exist as of this year...This story really makes you smirk about the greed on Wall Street but balances it with the empathetic experience of Cath dealing with her husband's decline into Altzheimer's mists. Even though this is a light read for me, it helps to be interested in the financial world and even I learned some "new" lingo. You can relate to the characters with Cath's casual references to poets, novelists, and musicians. All of the characters have weaknesses, but the value of the book is that it's fictional account of the hypocracy in so many public, private, and government organizations.
