This is a Love Inspired Suspense book from 2005. I enjoyed Yuletide Peril a lot. I haven't read many of the Love Inspired Suspense books. I love mysteries. I confess I had this one figured out by halfway... but I do that with most mysteries. Still... it was a lot of fun to read. The central character is Janice. She was reared by 2 parents with drug addictions and spent most of her life in and out of foster care, finally ending up in a group home. Her younger sister (10 years younger) ends up in a foster home. Over the years, Janice works to improve her lot in life and at age 21 she becomes her younger sister's guardian. In the meantime, they learn that Janice has inherited a home and money from her uncle. So Janice and Brooke pack up what little they have and head to a new life. But once there, they find the family home in horrible condition and no one willing to help. It seems that people believe the house is haunted! (Quick note -- there are no ghosts or such in this book... it has nothing to do with the occult) Overtime, Janice learns to trust fully in the Lord and walk in faith letting Him deal with her fears. A lot of strange things happen and there is a tense suspenseful ending and yes, there is romance. It is a sweet story of beginning again and trusting the Lord.. mixed in with a bit of mystery and intrigue!
