I adore Dake. What a great character. Anyway, this book reads rather like an epic than a romance in many ways. Kind of reminded me of "Cold Mountain" but with lots of butt kicking and a happy ending. I think Grant is one of the more detailed writers out there so you really have a good sense of the world. I've read almost all her books with exception of one. It's good to read the others first just so you have a sense of who everyone is but it's not absolutely necessary. I think I really enjoy the minor characters and would love to read more about them.
