WANTONS WEB by Alex Matthews Chicago therapist Cassidy McCabe and her live-in boyfriend, reporter Zack Moran, are going to get married. Then, on a hot summer night, Zack's ex-lover, a call-girl named Xandra, calls and asks him to watch a teenage son he never knew existed. Xandra gets murdered, Zack is the prime suspect, and Cassidy investigates to clear Zack and protect his son from danger. Despite the novel's unrealistic premise, the tough mystery and Matthews' suspenseful writing will keep readers reading. With its dark mood and violent scenes, this book will appeal to fans of such well-known hard-boiled female sleuths as Kinsey Millhone and V. I. Warshawski.
