This book was no where near as mysterious as the cover makes it sound. The potato girl is not particularly scary - just pathetically tragic. It may have been a better read if my expectations had been something other than a haunting, murder-mystery. The psychological aspects were definitely key to the development of the characters and much more prominent than the ghost story which actually seemed to be a minor sub-plot. Overall, it was not the intense read I hoped for, but approach it with a more casual "good gossip" kind of attitude and the characters may make for a quick and somewhat interesting read. Oh, and watch out for the clunky clues about who-done-it.
