Written in 2001, still relevent today. Explains the changes that have taken place from a mass manufacturing society to a post-industrial society. Explains why wages and work has shifted to contract work. Tenure and life-long employment is out.
By outsourcing work we get better deals, and the society operates on getting better and better deals. This is driving innovation and the changes in the workplace. Routine work will be low pay.
The problem with the new ecconomy is you may not have enough money to buy all the products and services you need.
you need talents, education and connections.
As more people have college degrees, that depresses the value of a college degree. If you do not have a college degree you are screwed, because large scale mass production has automated, and found cheaper labor overseas. "better deals" for consumers who can buy things, bad deal for communities that need to employ people at living wages.
Offered some solutions, but did not propose a basic income program to give people additional income when work does not support our basic needs.
