Bishop, Iowa, has its feelings of small town closeness and safety shattered by the discovery of seven skeletons during the demolition of an old hotel. Bill Mullins, who has recently returned to Bishop as its new medical examiner, finds a bullet imbedded in one of the chest bones, and determines that the seven were murdered. he and Sheriff "Bird" Starling solicit the help of a forensic anthropologist to determine the age, sex and dates of death of the seven; he finds that the skeletons are over sixty years old. Since the skeletons aren't from a recent crime, the sheriff, the town leaders, and the media lose interest in the investigation. Bill Mullins keeps up the investigation, though, and slowly realizes that Biship's solidarity is based on a deadly secrecy, and his life is in danger because of it!

I haven't read this one. It was given to me.
